Venous Reflux or Venous Insufficiency

The duplex ultrasound examination visualizes the blood vessels that are not visible on the skin surface. This non-invasive examination is used to identify the veins that have faulty valves, to map the venous anatomy, and to assess the severity of vein problems. Patients who present with varicose veins, leg swelling, leg skin abnormalities such as ulceration and discoloration are candidates for testing with ultrasound.

We will need to examine your leg from the groin level to the ankle. We provide disposable shorts that we will ask you to change into. Alternatively, you may bring your own shorts.

Deep Venous Thrombosis Screening

A deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot in the deep veins of the legs. The deep veins are typically within the muscles. Signs of a DVT may include leg pains or leg swelling. Each year, about 2 million people in the United States alone develop a DVT. This is a serious medical condition and can become life-threatening if the blood clot breaks loose and travels to the lungs. A DVT can be diagnosed by an experienced ultrasonographer with an ultrasound examination.
